Sandustry Machines Guide — Launchers, Shakers and Collectors

How the three starter machines work in Sandustry: Launchers for transport, Shakers for processing and Collectors for storage — plus chain-building tips.

Updated · 2026-08-19

Every Sandustry factory is built from a handful of machines that move, process and store resources. This guide covers the three starter machines from the official wiki's beginner material: Launchers, Shakers and Collectors.

Launcher — transport

The Launcher propels items along a line. It is the backbone of every transport chain: sand dug out of the terrain needs to reach the machines that process it.

Shaker — processing

The Shaker separates and filters materials. This is where raw sand becomes useful output — the step that turns "dug up dirt" into "something you can sell or craft with".

Collector — storage

The Collector gathers and stores produced items so your factory keeps running while you plan the next step.

Building good chains

A healthy chain has three properties:

  1. No idle machines — something is always moving.
  2. No full storage — output never blocks the line.
  3. One bottleneck at a time — and you know which machine it is.

Tip: upgrade or add machines at the bottleneck, not everywhere. Doubling every machine doubles the cost but not the output — only the weak link matters.
