Sandustry First Factory Guide
A step-by-step starter factory for Sandustry: dig site, Launcher line, Shaker processing and Collector storage — your first fully automated chain.
Your first goal in Sandustry is not a big factory — it is one working chain. A small, smooth line teaches the loop, produces your first sellable output and gives you a base to expand from.
Step 1 — Pick a dig site
Find a spot with sand close to the surface. You want:
- Short transport distance — the less the Launcher line has to travel, the fewer machines you need.
- Room to grow — leave space on one side for processing and storage.
- A clear dump area — you will be removing a lot of terrain early on.
Step 2 — Build the Launcher line
Dig sand into the line of Launchers. Keep the line short at first: five to ten Launchers is plenty for a starter factory.
The line's job is to feed the Shaker, not to be impressive. If the Launchers outrun the Shaker, items pile up and the line jams.
Step 3 — Add the Shaker
Place the Shaker at the end of the Launcher line. It separates and filters the raw sand into useful output.
- Feed it from the Launcher line.
- Point its output toward your storage.
- Check the output before scaling up — what the Shaker produces defines what your factory can sell or craft.
Step 4 — Finish with Collectors
Collectors gather and store the produced items. This is the step most beginners skip, and it is the one that keeps the factory running:
- Always end a line in a Collector.
- Watch the storage level; when it fills, the chain stops.
- Add more Collectors as the line grows instead of letting items fall anywhere.
Step 5 — Loop and expand
Once the chain runs without you touching it:
- Add a second dig site feeding the same line.
- Upgrade or add Shakers if processing is the bottleneck.
- Stockpile materials for your next build — gold production is the classic first scale-up (see the Gold Factory guide).
Starter factory checklist
- [ ] One dig site, compact
- [ ] Launcher line short and straight
- [ ] Shaker fed from the line, output directed to storage
- [ ] Collector at the end, watched until it fills once
- [ ] No machine idles and nothing piles up for a full cycle
